We built Trunk to change the way engineers push and pull code — and everything in between. We are building an all-in-one solution for scalably checking, testing, merging, and monitoring code. This will allow your engineers to stay focused on your core business and ship code faster.
Developing at scale often feels insanely frustrating. Landing code can become a days-long process of babysitting a PR through a gauntlet of failures that you didn’t cause. It takes a serious investment in your internal DevEx (developer experience) to keep development efficient and painless, an investment that most companies can’t and won’t make. Tooling does not drive sales. Static analyzers do not make customers happy. The problem is that this underinvestment has an immense long-term cost to developer satisfaction and productivity.
In contrast, when we worked at some of the world’s leading technology companies — Google, Uber, Microsoft — we enjoyed a much different developer lifestyle. Tech giants have entire dedicated DevEx teams. They’ve learned, often all too painfully, that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. As a result, it’s like the difference between building a house using power tools and building one using basic hammers and screwdrivers.
Trunk — Putting the Fun Back in Coding
With Trunk, we believe, we have the potential to take developing code at scale from frustrating to fun. We all love to code. It’s why we became engineers. There are days when we get lost in the code and can spend uninterrupted blocks of time working on hard problems. Those are our best days. We want more of those days and believe all developers deserve more of those days, too.
Today we’re launching the first piece of the puzzle: Trunk Check, a blazingly fast meta-linter and formatter that elevates checking your code for errors and consistency. Use the CLI and VSCode extension today, and sign up for the waitlist for extended features and access to our invite-only web app.
